*Because of COVID - Current in-person Unit 2 is postponed. Find out more about these courses being offered at the next WICHIEFS conference by attending the protraining booth*
What are the two ways Unit 2 can be delivered?
- A train the trainer package is available for purchase. The cost is dependent on location and the number of individuals that will be taking the training in the future. This package includes 2 complimentary admissions to the individual Unit 2 training, so facilitators can experience Unit 2 training first hand. After training, trainers are given manuals, handbooks, handouts (how to train actors/facilitators/mental health professionals), power-points, evaluation assistance and licenses for Unit 2. Lunch and refreshments are provided for your 2 officers who attend. For more information on Unit 2 – please see the Unit 2 homepage or contact us.
- Individual officer training of $500/officer. We hire all actors and trainers for role-based training and train your members individually. A maximum of 24 officers are needed to hold and in-person training session.
Do my members need to take Unit 1 before 2?
Yes. Unit 1 is a 90-minute online course (Unit 1) that teaches officers all of the skills they will be required to use in the hands-on training (Unit 2). Access to Unit 1 is included for the 2 members that are confirmed to attend Unit 2 (train the trainer). For other members, the cost is $50.00 per officer and can be purchased on http://www.protraining.com (if you would like a complimentary copy of this training for you to experience, I can provide you with one).
Is there an annual fee to keep the licence to deliver the training?
No, there is no annual fee. Once purchased, you will have the ability to train using this training indefinitely, but only within your organization.
Can the course be modified in any way by the course provider?
Every 3 years, ProTraining will create a new set of 6 scenarios that you can re-license for a fee but it is not mandatory. So essentially we will modify this course by updating new mental health scenarios so that continued learning can occur.
If ProTraining course materials are modified, will you require the provider to purchase new material to replace any current manuals that they have not used for a course?
As mentioned, we will update our course every 3 years and it is not mandatory for your organization to purchase the new materials. If you want to continue to train using the initial training, there is no fee, but if you wanted the update, there would be a fee. The fee amount would be in the price range of the initial train the trainer, for the new materials and train the trainer session.
Would actors always be required so the learners achieve the greatest benefit from your material?
Actors are a crucial component to our training, as they create an intense, realistic and engaging training session. Our course is based on 5 years of scientific evidence where we trained officers using actors in all scenarios.
If training layout is modified (by not using actors), then training no longer becomes based on scientific research and it will jeopardize the scientific validity and reliability.
With this being said, I understand that hiring actors for training purposes can be expensive, but they are required to achieve the greatest benefit from our material.
What is Unit 3?
*Because of COVID - Current in-person Unit 3 is postponed. Find out more about these courses being offered at the next WICHIEFS conference by attending the protraining booth*
Unit 3 is a 40-hour high-intensity training session is composed of blended learning, both experiential and classroom. It is both intellectually and emotionally stimulating, incorporating professional actors at different points of the training so that what is taught can be practised in a safe environment. It focuses on behaviour identification, pre-incident planning, how to increase hope in the hopeless, enhancing the mental health of the officer, and specialized materials based on your region (i.e. cultural adversity). The cost of Unit 3 is dependent on your organizational needs. Connect with us at our conference booth for more information.
